Psychiatry

Psychiatry is the branch of medicine focusing on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.

To become a psychiatrist, I completed medical school and gained a state license to practice medicine followed by five years of neurology and psychiatry residency in a hospital. After completing residency training I took another oral examination by the German Board of Psychiatry to become a “board certified” psychiatrist. Continued training is an obligation in order to stay certified, a requirement I always honor.

This knowledge clearly influences my therapeutic work, but I have withdrawn from pure psychiatric work (prescribing medication, certificates of incapacity to work or study, etc.) in favour of psychotherapeutic work.
